How did you come to your religious beliefs? What divine encounters take place that lead you to choose the path that you take?

I came to my belief by not so much encounters but research and looked into the different religions and chose the path that most suited me and where I felt more comfortable with. Because my mom is christian my dad is catholic and there are others in my family with other beliefs so it was a matter of where I felt put me at peace over what I encountered to come to my belief now.

My daughters light up my world but to them I am their light.

I came to Christianity when i did some research, i used to be agnostic. I read this book called "The Case for Christ" very interesting book, i highly recommend it for people who even might not be Christians, its not preachy at all. Anywho, the book single-handedly shut down people who said the crucification of Jesus was false and fake. I wont elaborate alot, but examples like, he couldn't have gotten out of the tomb any other way but the front 2ton boulder in the front, and the roman soldiers that were guarding it would be killed if he 'escaped' so they would be quite on duty. anyway, the book explains it ALOT better than i can, as well as many other points. I love talking about stuff like this ^-^. please, do go on.

The question for me is more like: How did I come to give up on my religious believes?

So I am gonna aswer that Smile

I just realized that Christianity had many "holes" in it's acusations and claims. What Jesus teached about love has nothing to do with what the Christian church claims. It's corrupted and was always there to give the opportunity for men to achieve big goals such as money and power. We all know what tricks and dirty games the church has played over the centuries always in the name of God.

So I researched and just realized that it is all just so foolish and the real love that Jesus taught is a much bigger ideal and philosophy which has to be worshiped in a different way in any way the individual feels.

I don't have any specific religion but I am open-minded to them all and have always been more of a spiritualist/occultist. But if I were to find myself as a follower of religion it would probably by Thelema. I came to Occult in general when I was about 14 out of sheer interest and what may back then have been a phase, but it survived my short attention span and it is now one of my greatest passions. What about you, Hadassah?

My karma ran over your dogma!

At the age of 14 I was strongly interessted in buddhism, because of their harmonic and peaceful way to live! It´s quite difficult to live like that in our capitalistic orientated world, where everybody tries to gain the maximum out of another person!

I am an atheist! I am not baptized and learned about religious stuff from a historical point of view!
I do respect any kind of belief! Everybody is free to believe in, what make them feel good!
Unfortuanatly the friends (with belief) I had couldn´t tolerate that I don´t believe in god! they tried to proselytise me (which upsetted me) and after that didn´t work, they behaved quite aggressiv towards me!
too bad, isn´t it??!

the most important thing is to tolerate each other I think!!!

About the institution church (not the religion itself) I agree with ~Nicky

Remember the conversation you had with the administration about a month ago? Your...religious fervor is starting to bubble over, and its getting annoying again. Since handing things privately, which would be the gracious thing to do, doesnt phase you, there is no choice but to handle it publicly. Moderate yourself before the moderating team has to.

Oh, and if you are going to ask a question of the admin team, it is wise to wait for an answer before just plowing ahead.

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories with me. They were vey interesting stories. I love to hear and learn about other religions. I like how the Wiccan religion has a mother Goddess.

I would love to share my story here as well. But I am not going to share my story here at the board. I do not want anyone to feel, I am pushing my religion on them. So I will leave a link to my website on my story and leave it up to the reader to visit and read my story.

here is my religious belief....why bother caring about something you do not know is true. you don't know what happens after death. when you die then you know...that's it. stop the shoving down the throats it's getting really annoying and i am only 18. idc what you worship just don't try to force me to worship it because chances are...you are wrong as well...wait for sweet simple death see what happens and think of it as a new experience. and before i end this i want to make it CLEAR that IDC what you worship but i CARE when it's shoved down the throats of others and you are seen as evil or infidel if you believe otherwise.

Sadmortal, religions are not about death. They are about how you have to live your life and what spiritual path you follow. It's the ideals you try to live with your entire life.

Death is something the religions try to explain too, so that we scared mortals have something to look forward to and create a motive for keeping our straight path of ideals and believes.

I hope my post doesn't offend anyone. If it does, sorry.

I happen to live in the middle of the south eastern bible belt, and everyone in my town just happens to be dead set on what a 'good christian man/woman' would do. I've had things preached at me and shoved down my throat for so long that I feel like i'm almost allergic to the southern institution of the church.
I have no problem with christianity itself, its the christians themselves that I generally have a problem with. (the ones in my area I mean, I have a good many christian friends, but most i've met are pushy and say I'm going to burn in hell)
I went through a pagan phase when I was about 14, which is when I met Taka, who introduced me to other aspects of the occult. Since then I've melded the things I've learned and believe in into my own little eclectic belief system. Granted, I can't explain it, I don't even know everything about it yet, but when I hear something I know whether or not it clashes with my belief system.
It's good enough for me. Smile

DymADozen, and to the others, forgive me if you felt I was pushing things on you. The post isn't about pushing any religion on anyone but how they came to their religous path.

I am sorry about the Christians who pushed their religions beliefs on you. I will admit that Christianity has not always follow the teachings of Jesus when it comes to showing love to others and respect but please don't think that every Christian is like that.

By ignoring everything the 12 years of Christian education taught me.

By having the audacity to question all the history that the Christian church tried to force me to accept without entertaining a single iota of logic as proof.

By standing up to the Christian "authorities" who attempted to inflict their sordid twisted concepts and egotistical patterns upon children such as myself , as soon as I was old enough to understand what they were trying to do.

By refusing to accept the ideals of anyone with a blatantly obvious lower IQ than myself and the morals of an alleycat.

By taking the time to educate myself on spiritual matters ,listen to my intuition and cultivating independent thinking.

And last ,but not least by giving fanatical do-gooder ,Christians who drag their religion into every possible subject from Aliens to Zoology an enormously wide berth , so as to avoid being drawn into long winded late night rants like this.

You.Rock!

I came to my religion through normal means, trial and error, forming my own opinions, melding the two different paths i generally adhere to (Satanism and Paganism) into my own coherent path (Named, by me no less, LaVey Influenced Paganism)

May the Earth treat you well...

Religion gives many people hold and support in their lifes!
It gives them a path through their lifes!
That´s why, I think it´s a very positive thing!

If it lights up someones life to believe in god and gives them a reason to live and takes away the fear of death, that´s great for that person!

I don´t know what´s after death of corse! But I don´t believe there is anything (that´s my personal opinion)! If I´m proven wrong after dieing and there is something like heaven or reincarnation it´s fine with me too!

The only thing which is bad, is that there are so many wars and killing because of religion!

Religion itself isn´t bad, some humans believing in it make it bad!
